Symbols Don't Lie and Archetypes Show Us the way

Dreams are important. Do you remember the dreams you had as a child? You were a ballerina, teacher, cowboy, superhero, designer or mother. Maybe you played various roles. These dreams were not in vain. Each one designated an archetypal pattern you came into this world to fulfill. No, that doesn’t mean you are to don a superman cape or wear a six-gun holster and cowboy hat. It means that the soul pattern of a particular archetype is inside you and seeks expression.

I have a client who can argue any point where he found injustice. He said, I can’t help it. If I see injustice, I have to do something. And he did do something. His archetype was the lawman, fighter for justice. As he said it, I have to correct the wrongs. And he was good at it.

I once asked a client, what he wanted to be when he grew up. His answer: a cowboy. And what is it about being a cowboy that excitement? It was riding the open range on his trusty horse. The image suggested freedom and living large in the vast outdoors. So that is exactly what he decided to do. He started his own lawn care business and spent his time riding the range on his trusty riding mower and he was free.

A superhero pattern might show up as helping down-trodden folks, starting a charity, entering law enforcement to protect people, or venturing into politics to protect and serve or change the political system. Thus you see that archetypes are symbolic. They represent basic energy patterns that must be played out.

Each person exudes their symbolic archetypal pattern in the way they choose goals, and react in life. You might think being a leader is a haughty intention, but not if your soul is wired to do that. I wanted to help people but not by repairing bodies or being a social worker. I wanted to help people from a deep soul level, to help them experience freedom and recognize who they truly are as dynamic creative beings. And that is exactly what I have done.

As a bird follows its internal GPS (spiritual frequency) when flying hundreds of miles to reach its destination, we do the same. The bird doesn’t know that he can’t accomplish his goal, so he keeps flying until he reaches it. The bird is focused and intent on arriving. He has no doubt or anxiety about not making it. We can do the same thing.

Each step, each action moves you in the right direction. You just have to listen to your internal guidance system. How do you know what your archetypal pattern is? The answer is, when do you feel most alive… when making music, sharing with others, designing a room, painting a picture, riding the range, comforting a child? It is all there in the moment. Pay attention, let your gut instincts (intuition) be your guide. Pay attention and the symbols will guide you. You’ll get there.
